Round 3 & 4 Northern Golf Club
On the second day the weather pattern continued adding
small bursts of rain to the freezing high winds which wreaked havoc on
the juniors at Northern Golf Club in Glenroy.
A number of players were seen chasing hats and score
cards around the course throughout the day. All competitors and
spectators where relieved when they finally reached the warmth of the
clubhouse.
350 metre holes down wind were being driven and
similar length holes into the wind saw players struggling to get home in
two shots.
Overnight leader Jake Higginbottom had an average
morning round by his standards with a 4 over par 76 however only 6 other
player’s managed to better his score.
Sean Ong held tight during the third round matching
Higginbottom’s 76. Other players to narrow the gap were Mitchell
Sheather (74), Josh Cabban (73), Ruben Sondjaja (76),
The front nine holes saw a dramatic change in the
event with Ong turning 3 over par while Higginbottom was at level
par.
Both Higginbottom and Ong had final rounds of 73 for
totals of 295 and 298 respectively.
U16 Winner Ruben Sondjaja from Bonnie Doon took a 10
shot lead over Ben Eccles into the final round in the under 16 section..
His Final Score of 309 was 8 shots clear of Runner Up Ben Eccles who had
a disappointing tournament.
Conor Davis of Keysborough won the U16 Handicap
Section with a nett score of 304.
In the under 14 section Shane Feldman held his 1 shot
lead shooting 82 in the third round. David Micheluzzi matched
Feldman’s 82 to stay in contention.
Shane Feldman, David Vadori and Konrad Ciupek all had
solid third rounds to catch up to Christian Bennett who previously held
a 7 stroke lead.
Round 1 & 2 Yarra Yarra Golf Club
The weather was the main subject of conversation at Yarra Yarra Golf
Club with the junior players braving the freezing winds that got
stronger as the day progressed.
Jake Higginbottom was the overnight leader shooting solid rounds of
74, 72 to lead the championship by three strokes from Victorian
State player Sean
Ong who is leading the Handicap Section.
In the Under 16 Section Ruben Sondjaja from Bonnie Doon GC leads by 5
shots from Victorian State player Ben Eccles.
Ruben also leads the Handicap section after scores of 76, 77 on a
handicap of 2.
Yarra Yarra member Shane Feldman took advantage of the home course
advantage to lead the Under 14 section on 166 in what looks likely to be
a 2 horse race.
David Micheluzzi of Cranbourne GC is one shot back from Feldman on
167.
Christian Bennett is 7 shots clear of Shane Feldman in the Under 14
handicap section only time will tell if he can hold his nerve through
the final 2 rounds.

Ten of Australia’s top forty
junior golfers will compete in the 2010 Victorian Junior amateur
Championship to be held at Yarra Yarra and Northern Golf Clubs on June
28th and 29th; including current number 2 ranked
Australian Junior and 2010 NSW Men’s Amateur Champion Jake
Higginbottom from The Australian Golf Club.
The tournament is restricted to 78 players playing 36 holes at Yarra
Yarra Golf Club on Monday 28th June then the final 36 holes
will be played on the Tuesday at Northern Golf Club.
Other notable interstate inclusions are Maverick Antcliff
(Indooroopilly GC) and Jarrod Freeman (Concord GC) number 4 & 5
junior ranked players respectively. The 2010 Boys NT Amateur Champion
Josh Cabban also from Concord Golf Club adds to the interstate
contingent all keen to take the trophy out of Victoria.
Victoria is well represented however
and will not let the trophy go interstate without a fight. Of the
Victorian State Team only one player is missing from the field, State
Team Captain Will Hume who is now too old to compete.
The team of Blake, Eccles, Ong, Power Horan and Stewart will be
challenged by local hope Scott Fullarton and a host of other in form
players.
Play commences in a multi tee start from 7.45am each day and
spectators are more than welcome to come and watch some of the stars of
tomorrow.
