Alpine Senior Masters - News
26/3/2011
Yarra Yarra’s Michael Jackson has taken out the 2011 Alpine Senior Masters by two shots from overnight leader Bill Banks (Royal Canberra) and Ross Percy (Cobram Barooga). In only his second seniors tournament after hand surgery Jackson played steady golf with scores of two over par 74 and 4 over par 76 to take the title.
Defending Champion Banks was unable to get going on the second day despite the weather and course being perfect for scoring. Ross Percy was able to post the best score on day two with a two over par 74 and finish the tournament tied for second place, not for the first time.
The Nett event was won by David Craig (Howlong) playing off a 16 handicap with rounds of 66 and 70. Craig won by one stroke from Green Acres Russell Porter who came home strongly with a nett 65 in the final round.
The course at Bright was in fantastic condition and the record number of 104 competitors from 48 different clubs is testament to how much the players enjoy the tournament and the hospitality at Bright.
Attention will now turn to the National Golf Club tournament starting on April 5th.

Three time winner Bill Banks from Royal Canberra sits on top of the leader board after a fine opening round of 73 at the Bright Golf Club today. Banks holds a one stroke lead from Michael Jackson (Yarra Yarra) and Lynton Spencer (Rossdale). Banks played well from tee to green but was only able to convert one birdie putt in an otherwise solid round. The course is in terrific condition and if the rain holds off tomorrow some sub par rounds are very possible. With 19 players within 5 strokes of the leader anyone could win this event. The nett event is hotly contested with David Craig from Howlong posting a 66 to lead by one stroke from Tim Miller (Kingston Heath) and three other players on 69's. The tournament this year boast's a capacity field of 104 players from some 48 golf clubs.
