Percy In Top Podium Finish Again

03/02/2010

Cobram-Barooga’s Ross Percy came from four shots behind after round one to win the 2010 Surf Coast Senior Amateur at the daunting but beautifully conditioned Sands course at Torquay.

Played in near perfect conditions on both days, the Australian representative recovered from his opening 79 to come in one under par 71 on day two, helped by birdies at 7, 9, 12 & 16.

Percy’s winning form comes at a good time as he is preparing to go to New Zealand with the Australian team this month for the annual 12 man team’s event against the Kiwis.

First round leaders on 75, Peter Bence (Cranbourne) and Trevor Thornell (Long Island) could not quite hold it together with Bence (75 – 78) being tied for runner up with fast finishing Colac player Greg Welsh (78 – 75).

Next best rounds to Percy for the day were 74’s from Tony Hyde (Rossdale) and John Wheeler (The National).

The net event saw recently retired Sands Club Captain Cam Muller take out the honours with 141 from a 6 handicap. Runner up was the ever consistent Frank Cuthbertson (Melton Valley) off 7 with 142.

The next event is the 36 Hole Lonsdale Senior Amateur at Lonsdale GC this coming Thursday 4th  & Friday 5th – post entries are being accepted. Please phone Pat Giles mob: 0418 509 649 for more information.
