Eureka Senior Amateur

The Eureka Senior Amateur will be played over 36 holes stroke (men) and stableford (women) play at Ballarat and Buninyong Golf Clubs. The event is part of the Victorian Men's & Women's Senior Order of Merit and will comprise of gross/nett trophies for men and stableford/stableford trophies for women.

Entry Fee: $90.00 (inc. GST & $2 charity donation)
Inclusion: Lunch on both days
Optional:: Dinner at Ballarat GC (Tuesday) - Bisto Menu with $15 Roast Carvery

Round 2 - Wednesday 12 April - Buninyong GC

The Eureka Senior Amateur has concluded today in sunny conditions at Buninyong Golf Club. It was a fresh start this morning for players this morning at tee off, however the sun came through and presented a beautiful day for a walk around the course.

Kym Olsen stormed home to a 7 shot win with an even par round of 72 today. The National member had a consistent round of 1 birdie, 16 pars and 1 bogey for a 36-hole total of 6 under par 138 to claim victory over Ian Frost of Rich River. Frost finished on 1 over par 145 and won runner-up honours on a count-back from local member Chris Tatt who took home the best gross prize in the 65+ category.

In the nett section it was another local member Ian Corcoran finishing on top of the leaderboard. The Buninyong member off a handicap of 6 finished with a 36-hole nett total of 140 to win on a count-back from Pakenham’s John Hoare. Ballarat member Bob Cooper won the best nett prize in the 65+ category on a count-back from Hoare.

Helen Pascoe remains the player to beat in the women’s scratch section with another title to add to her belt. The Buninyong member posted a solid 63 gross stableford points to win by 12 pts from runner-up June Tickell of Trafalgar.

After an impressive 42 stableford points today, Tina Cowie has won the women’s stableford section with a total of 74 points. The Tambo Valley member snuck ahead of round 1 co-leader Carmel Claney of Kingston Heath by a mere shot, who also enjoyed an excellent day scoring 39 points.

The senior “circuit” moves across to Box Hill next on Friday 5 May for their 18-hole Senior Amateur event.


Round 1 - Tuesday 11 April - Ballarat GC

Round 1 of the Eureka Senior Amateur kicked off today at Ballarat Golf Club.

A field of 86 players took to the redesigned Thomson Perret course today in drizzly conditions and contrary to the forecast the weather cleared up to a pleasantly sunny afternoon.

Hot off a record-breaking win at The National Senior Masters last week, Kym Olsen is leading the charge with a blistering 6 under par today. Olsen carded a 66 today to be 4 shots ahead of Buninyong member Chris Tatt who will be looking to make the most of his home ground knowledge tomorrow to chase down the leader.

In the nett section it is Geoffrey Knight with the best score in today on a nett 67. The Kingston Heath member is a mere shot ahead of trio Paul Williams (Kew), John Hoare (Pakenham) and Leigh Gow (Buninyong) all tied on nett 68.

Helen Pascoe will go onto home soil tomorrow at Buninyong with a 9 shot lead in the gross women’s section after posting a solid round of 33 gross points. Next best was Trafalgar’s June Tickell on 24 points followed by Bev Smith of Hepburn Springs on 23 points.

Tied with Pascoe in the lead in the women’s nett section are Carmel Claney (Kingston Heath) and Pat Egan (Clifton Springs). The trio all posted scores of 34 stableford points to be leading by 2 points from four players tied on 32 points.

The second and final round moves across to Buninyong tomorrow for an 8:30am start.
