Doris Chambers Cup

12 - 19 October 2017

The Doris Chambers Cup is an 18 Hole Stableford Foursomes event. The perpetual trophy was donated by Miss Doris Chambers OBE, former Ladies Golf Union President and was first played in 1950.

Each Golf Victoria affiliated club wishing to take part in the competition will play a Club Qualifying round on its own course on a date suitable to the club. Each pair pays an entry fee of which the total fees are sent to Golf Victoria.

The winning pair from each club then proceeds to one of the two State Finals.

Keys Winners
L-R: (Wonthaggi) - Anne Walker & Leonie Bentick

The second & final Doris Chambers State Final was played today at the picturesque Keysborough GC, which was presented in wonderful condition.

The 142-strong field made up of mostly Metropolitan clubs, had to deal with the elements throughout the day as inconsistent weather made scoring difficult.

Winners within the AM field & the overall winners of the day were the Wonthaggi duo of Anne Walker & Leonie Bentick who fired 37 stableford points within the Foursomes Stableford format. Walker & Bentick were the only pair to break the par of 36 points over the entire day, with the Yarra Yarra combination of Debra Thurlow & Jenny Cox finishing runner-up with 34 points.

The afternoon event was won by the Maffra team of Lori Murray & Kathie Kemp who fired a round of 36 points. A three-way log jam in second place between Woorayl, Cheltenham & Spring Valley on 35 points saw the Woorayl team emerge via a countback to take second place.

Golf Victoria extends sincere thanks to both host venues Sanctuary Lakes & Keysborough for the wonderful hospitality provided to all players.

SancLakes Doris Winner

The first of two Doris Chambers State Finals was played today at the Sanctuary Lakes Club in Melbourne’s west, with 146 women participants involved.

With October being Golf Month, it was fitting that club qualifiers congregated to the Metropolitan area to compete in the State Final. Each Golf Victoria affiliated club wishing to take part in the Foursomes Stableford competition plays a club qualifying round on its own course with the winners advancing to one of two finals, dependent on the clubs’ location.

Winners of the AM field were Barham pair Jeanette Weaver and Kerrie James who scored 38 foursomes stableford points. Coincidentally this was the same winning score for the AM field of the 2016 event. In second place and only 3 shots behind the winners was Val O’Neill and Maree Fitzgerald from Coleraine. Weaver and James returned the best score of the day and will have their names etched into the Doris Chambers Cup.

The PM field was won by Judy Langford and Jac Surman from Wodonga, who returned and even 36 points for their round. The winning dup were only 11-over the card for their round, and went the full 18 holes with points on each one.

Blustery wind throughout the day made scoring tough, considering the conditions scoring for all today was outstanding. Another 150 participants will now contest the second State Final which is to be played at Keysborough Golf Club next Thursday 19 October. Everyone will be trying to get their names engraved alongside Weaver and James.
