The Alpine Senior Amateur will be played over 36 holes stroke (Men) play at Bright Golf Club. The event is part of the Victorian Men's Senior Order of Merit and will comprise of gross/nett trophies.

Inclusions: Light lunch for both rounds, Thursday evening BBQ, Friday morning sausage sizzle

Final round – Friday 17 March
The final round of the 2017 Alpine Senior Masters has concluded this afternoon with a record field of 114 senior golfers enjoying idyllic conditions.

It was a tight affair in the women’s gross championship, with Sue Dawes (Yarrawonga) storming home to win via a three-way countback from overnight leader Helen Pascoe (Buninyong) & Wodonga’s Judy Langford.

Jenny Long (Box Hill) led from wire to wire to win the women’s nett championship, backing up her first round 34 points with another 34-point effort to win by two from Zdenka Better (Warragul) who finished with 66 stableford points.

It was a similar affair in the men’s championship, with both the gross & nett winners leading from start to finish. Rutherglen’s Bill Black took out the nett championship with a two round nett total of 141. Torquay’s Ross Bottomley finished second just one shot adrift on 142.

Gordon Claney recorded a win in the gross event by 6 shots from Ian Frost (Rich River). Claney fired back to back rounds of one under par 71 for a two-round total of 142.

The next event on the senior calendar is the Mornington Peninsula Senior Amateur 27 – 28 March.

Opening round – Thursday 16 March
Gordon Claney & Helen Pascoe will lead their respective fields after round one of the 2017 Alpine Senior Masters played at Bright Country Golf Club situated in the foothills of the Victorian alps. The course, designed by Tony Cashmore, is a unique layout with magnificent well grassed fairways and smooth true greens.

Claney fired a consistent round of one under par to lead the field by two shots. Trailing Claney is current Doug Bachli Champion Ian Frost (Rich River) who fired a round of 73. In the nett championship, Bill Black (Rutherglen) & Rob Richards (Kingston Heath) will sleep on the nett lead after finishing with fine rounds of nett 69

In the women’s championship, Buninyong’s Helen Pascoe leads Wodonga’s Judy Langford by a single point after an opening round 29 gross stableford points with Langford finishing the first round with 28 gross stableford points. Box Hill’s Jenny Long leads the women’s nett championship after recording a fine round of 34 stableford points.

Fine sunny weather prevailed today with the forecast for event better conditions tomorrow which will setup an exciting finish. The final round will get underway via a shotgun start at 9:00am.
