Toc Winners
LtoR: Patrick Mitchell (Eastern), David Robb (Corowa) and Heather Harley (Kooringal)

A big week of golf wrapped up today at the Tocumwal Golf and Bowls Club, which is situated on the famous Murray River. With an overnight frost and morning fog, the temperature was low but the spirits high as the players took to the beautifully manicured fairways and greens that shown little signs of winter. Players tried their hand on the Captains course today, which proved difficult for some players.

David Robb from Corowa successfully claimed his second victory this week, his first Doug Bachli event come earlier this week at Shepparton. David finished 2 shots behind overnight leaders Wayne Moriarty (Commercial Albury) and Greg Holmes (Broadford), but after returning the round two lowest core catapulted him to the top of the leaderboard. Holmes finished one shot behind Robb, a 5-over par 77 today gave him outright second place from Malcolm Barnes (Neangar Park) a further2 shots back.

Heather Harley from Kooringal has claimed the Women’s Tocumwal Senior Amateur title, with a total of 67 Stableford points for 36 holes. Heather took the title on a countback from overnight leader Judy Langford (Wodonga). Locals Bobette Wilkinson and Julie Penny rounded out equal third place.

Eastern member Patrick Mitchell fired a sensational 64 nett from a 12 handicap in round 1 of the tournament, setting himself up well for a good finish, taking the handicap title from Chris Mansour (Centenary Park) with a two round total of 138.

Round 1

Toc 1 2017
LtoR: Helen Pascoe (Buninyong), Heather Harley (Kooringal), Bobette Wilkinson (Tocumwal) and Judy Langford (Wodonga).

In crisp clear winter conditions 48 men and 13 women teed up in the 2017 Tocumwal Senior Amateur. In the last event for the week, all players took up the challenge of the President’s Course today and the scores indicated that the course and the players were evenly contested. Tomorrow’s second round will be played on the Captains Course.

Wayne Moriarty (Commercial Albury) and Greg Holmes (Broadford) returned fine 3 over par 75’s to lead the field by a shot at the end of today’s play. Patrick Mitchell (Eastern), Peter Zotti (Wagga Wagga) and Ian McCleary (Kooringal) are hot on the heels of Moriarty and Holmes returning 4 over par 76’s.
In the Nett event, Patrick Mitchell enjoys a 4 shot lead returning a fine 64. Wayne Moriarty’s 68 will ensure a good tussle for the title tomorrow.

The Women's Stableford leader is Judy Langford (Wodonga) with 35 points. Judy’s gross 79 will see her play in tomorrow’s leading stroke group with Helen Pascoe who also returned a 6 over 79 today. Closely following Judy in the stableford event is Tocumwal member Julie Penny and Rossdale’s Noelle Hartnett who both finished the day with 33 points.

Play will begin from 9:00am tomorrow morning on the Captains course.
