Royal Women's Hospital 4BBB

22 October 2018

The Royal Women’s Hospital (RWH) 4BBB Stableford Competition is a state-wide competition that raises funds to purchase new equipment and the training of specialist for the pelvic-floor dysfunction unit at the RWH. The event commenced in 2005 to commemorate the centenary year of Women’s Golf Victoria. All funds raised through this event are donated to the RWH Foundation.

In 2006, Mrs. Judy Onto then President of Women's Golf Victoria presented a cheque totalling $40,650 to Dr Marcus Carey from the RWH. This amount was raised via entry fees from over 9000 women who played in the 2006 RWH 4BBB event, and through the sale of Address Books, to mark 100 years of women's golf in Victoria.

From 2006 to 2017 the 4 Ball Best Ball plus the Annual Charity Day events have raised over $200,000 for the hospital through the participation and donations of approximately 25,000 Victorian women golfers.

The Commonwealth Golf Club duo of Louise Crosby & Anita Hughes returned the best score in the afternoon field with 45 points. The pair took a liking to the Patterson River layout which was in fantastic condition despite the heavy rain in the last 24 hours. Finishing in second place in the afternoon field was Keysborough’s Jan Jaffe & Val Hayes with 44 points on a countback.

Thank you to all clubs across Victoria who have graciously supported this event to raise funds and awareness of the outstanding work that the Royal Women’s Hospital does. The Golf Victoria initiative to raise funds to support the Royal Women’s Hospital Pelvic Floor unit was initiated in 2006. The top 12 pairs from today’s Metropolitan Final will meet with the winners and runners-up from the District Finals to contest the third and final stage (State Final) at Kew GC on Monday 23 October.

2017 STATE FINAL - The Kew GC - Monday 23 October

Eastern Golf Club duo Jane Neale & Lorraine Watson have backed up their win at The Metropolitan Final two weeks ago to take out the 2017 Royal Women’s Hospital State Final. 35 pairs qualified either through their respective District Finals or the Metropolitan Final to compete in today’s State Final at one of Victoria’s finest courses, Kew Golf Club.

In almost perfectly still conditions, Neale & Watson had a day out on the course and returned an incredible score of 51 stableford points. The pair set up the win with a remarkable front 9 that produced a total of 29 points, with both players combining well and contributing evenly. Throughout her speech, Watson was unable to wipe the smile off her face and said she never imagined holding the trophy for a major golf event. The runners-up prize went to the Cardinia Beaconhills pair of Jenny Chandler & Adrienne Wilson who finished the day with 47 points.

The Royal Women’s Hospital 4BBB event commenced in 2005, generously supporting one of the less well funded areas of women’s health: the consequences of and treatment for pelvic floor dysfunction. Susie Rouffignac (Philanthropy Manager - Royal Women’s Hospital) was delighted to meet and greet the finalists at Kew Golf Club and gave an informative presentation to all the players.

Continuing support from Golf Victoria for the Royal Women’s Hospital in this vital area of women’s health will enable the further development in the training of doctors, developing new treatments and technologies and providing accessible health information to thousands of women around Victoria.

Thank you to all Victorian clubs for your ongoing support of the Royal Women’s Hospital annual 4BBB event and to The Kew GC for generously hosting the State Final.
