2015 Women's Captains' & Presidents' Day

2015 Women's Capt & Pres Winners
Winners Marilyn King (L) & Karin Schmidt (Rossdale) with GV Board Member Sue Rea

Over 60 Victorian Clubs were represented at the 2015 Golf Victoria Women’s Captains’ & Presidents’ Day held at Southern Golf Club on Friday for a day of golf, trophy presentations and information sharing on women’s golf.

Under clear blue morning skies punctuated by a brisk southerly breeze, 118 players participated in the Canadian Foursomes Stableford competition around the beautifully presented Southern layout.

Rossdale’s Karin Schmidt and Marilyn King prevailed with a superb score of 37 points. Helen Noble and Carol Angland from Spring Valley were runners-up with 32 points.

Golf was followed by a presentation luncheon for both the morning event and trophies for The Mona MacLeod Brooch. The Brooch is a State-wide competition, first played for in 1961 and named in honour of one of Victoria’s greatest players, Miss Mona MacLeod. The 2015 winners were:

Silver Metropolitan Division: Rosalie Humbert (The National GC - Long Island Site) -8

Silver Country Division: Vicki Hannah (Apollo Bay) -4

Bronze Metropolitan Division: Barbara Ward-Ambler (Kingston Heath GC) -2 (c/b)

Bronze Country Division: Debbie Henderson (Cerberus GC) -7

GV Women’s Captains & Presidents Day is also a valuable opportunity for Golf Victoria to update women’s representatives from clubs all around the State on a range of specific women’s and general golf matters.

Items presented by GV Board member Sue Rea included an overview of the new Golf Victoria website; Women’s event changes in 2016 to the Bronze Teams, Victorian Women’s Salver and Victorian Women’s Champion of Champions events; addition of an extra venue for the popular Women’s Autumn tournament; clarification on Golf Victoria’s communication process with clubs and Districts and a general outline of GV services and the 2016 Oates Victorian Open.

To conclude the day, the 2016 Women’s Tournament Handbook, containing entry forms and specific information about the 2016 women’s golf calendar was distributed to each clubs’ representatives.

Golf Victoria’s thanks are extended to Southern for hosting the day and all the women that attended, particularly for the ongoing commitment to and involvement with their respective clubs and supporting the game of golf in Victoria.
