Aussie pair face nervous delay

Web.Com Tour final
Heavy rain meant no play on Sunday in Florida.

It's one more nervous sleep for Cameron Percy and Matt Jones.

Percy and Jones are both in the mix at the Web.Com Tour Championship final in Florida, where rain forced the postponement of the final round, forcing a Monday (US time) finish in the season finale.

Heavy rains lashed the Atlantic Beach area today, leaving Atlantic Beach Country Club unplayable.

The final-round postponement marks the first for the Web.com Tour Championship since the tournament’s inception in 1993, although last year it was cancelled because of the pending threat of Hurricane Matthew.

Jonathan Byrd (-19) holds a two-stroke advantage over fellow American Sam Saunders heading into the final round.

But with the top 25 from the four-week finals series to earn promotion to the PGA Tour, Jones (T12 at 13 under) and Percy (T20 at 11 under) are both in a large and complicated frame.

Sadly, a third-round 77 by New South Welshman Brett Drewitt dropped him to T49 at five under, effectively out of contention even as one of only three Aussies to make the weekend cut.

Sydney's Jones is coming from a long way back -- ranked 47th before the event and needing approximately a top-six finish tomorrow to have a chance of playing fully on the big tour again next year.

Percy finds himself in an even more fluid position, sitting right on the bubble at 25th and with one finger on a card.

The Melburnian probably needs to finish inside the top 20 to hang on, although that might not be enough depending on who moves past him. In short, a good round tomorrow and he'll have his destiny in his own hands.
