Aussies storm up amateur ranks

Curtis Luck didn’t quite scale the summit, but Australian amateur golf is perched as highly as it has been in years on the men’s world rankings.

Luck’s triumph at the Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship in Korea on Sunday wasn’t enough for him to overhaul American Maverick McNealy at the top of the rankings, but the gap between one and two narrowed appreciably.

Fellow Eisenhower Trophy winner Cam Davis watched his fourth place in Incheon vault him to a fourth and with a move to professional ranks on his cards in the near future, it’s fitting that he has reached a career-high.

And in small consolation for Brett Coletta, who had a putt to force a playoff with Luck in Korea, the young Victorian’s ranking soared 30 places to 37th.

Overall there are now eight Aussies in the top 100 and a remarkably another six inside the top 200 to highlight the depth of talent emerging.
