Back-to-Back Champions

It was destine to be a tough day at the office as the horrible weather rolled over the fairways at Woodlands during the early morning of today’s junior tournament. The rain eventually disappeared but the wind didn’t budge and neither did the mercury, but the winners dug deep resulting in some of the lowest scores in the history of the ever-popular tournament.

Backing up yesterday’s win, young gun Piper Stubbs took home the silverware after carding three over-par 75. With her good friend and fellow Junior State Team member Ash Hall on the bag Piper finished three shots clear of Keeley Marx who signed for a round of 78. Piper is also the 10th Liz Bruton winner having the best girl’s stableford score of the day.

Commonwealth’s Mitchell Crabbe took home the trifecta firing a tremendous four under 66 this morning. Crabbe won the overall boy’s title, the Perc Morling trophy by having the best stableford score and the Division A nett prize. With Jack Harrison hot on his heels, Crabbe’s make or break moment came on his 16th hole when he overshot his approach and finished on the practice putting green.  After taking relief he went onto make an incredible up and down for par after pitching 70m over scrub back to the hole. Runner up Jack Harrison who finished one shot back was also notable for shooting an impressive score of three under 67.

Meanwhile in Division B, Sanctuary Lakes’ Taegen Dodds narrowly notched out the National’s Hamish Farquharson to win on a count-back with 68 nett.  Adam Mao also prevailed on a count-back over Alexander Campbell with 39 points for top spot in the C Division.
