Brett Coletta left his best to last, but it wasn’t enough to run down new Pacific Coast Amateur champion Will Zalatoris.

For the second consecutive day, par was at a premium around a firm Seattle Golf Club layout and Coletta this time took advantage with four birdies in a commendable 70.

The Victorian edged up to two over in total, good for a T7 finish as many of the leaders battled in a tense final round.

Zalatoris, of Texas, didn’t do anything spectacular himself, but his 72 was the best of those in contention overnight and he hung tough in a playoff with Californian Nahum Mendoza to win the event’s 50th edition at three under par.

Coletta’s Golf Australia national squadmates Cameron Davis and Cameron John each fired even-par 72s to vault up to T12 at five over, while Sydney’s Ruben Sondjaja completed a solid event with a flat 76, but good enough to remain in the top 20 at seven over.

Victorian David Micheluzzi, who turned 20 during the event, continued his bounceback after a rough opening with a 72 to finish nine over and 22nd outright.

Perth’s Fred Lee (73), Gold Coaster Anthony Quayle (74) and Wodonga’s Zach Murray (76) each finished T29 at 11 over, while Troy Moses (78 for +14) and Kiran Day (76 for +18) rounded out the Aussie contingent.
