Course record for Par 3 leader Michel at Kyabram

Rounds 1 and 2 of the Victorian Men’s Par 3 Championship was contested in sunny but chilly conditions, with the weather reaching a maximum of 13 degrees Celsius. A field of 76 players teed up this morning with their eyes set upon being the 12th name etched on the perpetual trophy.

Kyle Michel is leading the field after 36-holes, posting rounds of 58 and 50 for a total of 108. The Shepparton member recorded an impressive 6 birdies on his way to a course record round of 4 under par this afternoon, beating the previous record of 51. Michel is 3 shots clear of Yarrawonga Mulwala’s Jay-Ar Martin on 111, with Jamie Scapin of Mooroopna a further 4 back on 115.

Denis Cooper of Belvoir Park came in with the best B-grade 36-hole gross score. Cooper is sitting on 128 (66 and 62) to finish a mere shot ahead of Pakenham member Phil Barling on 129. Corowa’s Steve Piddington is a further 3 shots back on 132 will also be looking to chase down the leader tomorrow.  

In the nett division, local member Cooper Gentle has recorded the best 36-hole nett total in A-grade with a score of 109. The 6 marker is closely followed by Shaun Julius of Rosanna who is 2 shots behind on nett 111. In B-grade, Denis Cooper is also leading the nett charge with a 36-hole total of 112, with Phil Barling (Pakenham) and Russell Locke (Kyabram Parkland) a shot behind on 113.

The third and final round commences at 9:00am tomorrow morning.
