Jason Day’s hot stretch of form is continuing at the AT & T Pebble Beach Pro-Am event in California, but the Australian could be headed for a weekend showdown with world No. 1 Dustin Johnson.

Day, who won in Los Angeles two weeks ago to jump back into the world’s top 10, fired a second-round 65 with no blemishes at the Monterey Peninsula Country Club today that kept him in the top-five at nine-under par.

A highlight was his long, bomb for birdie at the 15th hole, but the Australian was solid all day and made six birdies. He will play for the first time of the week at Pebble Beach tomorrow.

"Going into the weekend I'm excited about playing Pebble, I enjoy playing Pebble a lot too,'' he said. "But to go around here shooting 65 and not have a blemish on the scorecard was nice. So just got to get some rest tonight and try and get it to the weekend.''

He is three shots behind Johnson, who carded a second-round 64 to reach 12-under through two rounds, and Beau Hossler also of the United States.

Of the other Australians, Cameron Percy is having a good week, reaching five-under through two rounds to be tied-23rd, while Aaron Baddeley is at four-under.

World No. 2 John Rahm of Spain also is in the mix, tied for fifth with Day.
