Friday Women's Pennant Titles Decided

2016 Friday Women's Pennant Champs Div 1
2016 Division One Champions - Huntingdale

The 2016 Friday Women’s Pennant finals were contested today at Keysborough GC (divisions 1&4) & The National GC- Long island site (divisions 2&3) bringing to a close the season for eight clubs who made it to the final stage.

The division one contest was a rematch of the first round of the season between frequent rivals Huntingdale & Commonwealth. It was a nerve racking encounter as expected, with the last match going through to the 19th hole to see Huntingdale take their second win over Commonwealth by the narrowest of margins.

In division two, Peninsula-Kingswood emerged victorious 4.5 matches to 2.5 matches over the team representing Southern. For the second week running, both sides faced off having met each other in last week’s final round robin match where Southern took out another tight contest. On the big occasion of today’s final though, Peninsula-Kingswood were able to produce an inspired display to turn the tide on last week’s result and take home their first pennant flag since the merged club of Peninsula-Kingswood was formed.

Division three was also a tight affair with the result being decided by extra holes. The Heritage’s Marlene Ayres took the vital point with a win at the 19th hole proving the difference in a 4 matches to 3 win for The Heritage over Heidelberg GC. Division four on the other hand, was a battle between two teams who hadn't had the opportunity to play each other in the regular season as winners of their respective sections. Yering Meadows defeated Medway 4/3 with a number of close matches deciding the final result.
