Daniel Gill is setting the pace at the Victorian Men’s Country Championship at Rosebud Country Club. The recently selected Junior Boys State Team member from Wodonga is leading the field by one shot after carding a round of two over par 73.

A cool change swept through this afternoon as 107 players made their way out to their starting holes. Strong winds coupled with championship pin positions proved to be a challenge for the field and was reflected in the scores returned.

Ben Croker (The Dunes) and Will Mackenzie (Warrnambool) are currently sitting a single shot back on 74 and will be looking to chase down Gill tomorrow. Local members Greg Wilson (Rosebud) and Matthew Lever (The National) round out the top 5 players after posting a pair of 75s.

Leading the nett is East Framlingham’s Josh Brown with a solid nett 69. The 8 marker is ahead by one shot from Tayne Perry (Warrnambool) who carded a nett 70.

2017 Country Champion Caleb Perry (Warrnambool) and Gill are leaders in the Colts and Junior gross sections respectively, with Brown the best in the Junior nett section.

In addition to the individual titles, nine districts competed in the Victorian Junior Country Regions. The teams based competition sees the best 6 stroke scores from a group of 9 count towards a team’s tally.

After capturing the honours the last two years, South Western district have hit the ground running and are looking to make it a three-peat. The team tallied a totalled 482 today with both Max Green and Thomas Hanson guiding the troops with rounds of 78. However, the title won’t be a walk in the park, North Eastern District are placed just two shots back on 484 while Goulburn Murray and Golf Peninsula Vic are a further shot in arrears.  In the nett section, Western are placed seven shots clear of Goulburn Murray after the group scored 439 this afternoon.
