Green closes within reach of lead

Hannah Green
Hannah Green has been consistent all week in Nova Scotia.

She has never led, but you can bet your bottom dollar that Hannah Green is firmly in the minds of her Canadian Women’s Amateur rivals before tomorrow’s final round.

The Perth ace fired her third consecutive sub-par round today at Ken-Wo Golf Club north of Halifax, Nova Scotia to move within one shot of the lead – and a swag of invaluable exemptions.

Green, a Golf Australia national squad member, matched world junior girls’ champion Hye-jin Choi with five birdies in a rollercoaster two-under-par 68, as both reached five under par.

But they will be chasing a new name tomorrow as Mexican Maria Fassi matched Hawaiian Allisen Corpuz’s course record 65 from yesterday to reach six under.

Corpuz fired a 72 today to drop back alongside Green and Choi, with only four other players under par through three rounds.

Some consistent golf from much of the rest of Green’s compatriots means four other Aussies are in the top 25.

Yo Eun Eunice Kim, of Queensland, fired an even-par 70 to join WA’s Hira Naveed (71) at five over in a tie for 19th, while Queenslander Gennai Goodwin continued her good fightback with a 70 to join Sydney’s Liz Elmassian (72) at seven over in T24.

Gold Coaster Karis Davidson’s week didn’t improve much with another 75 to sit at 14 over and T49.

But the Aussie focus will fall squarely on Green tomorrow as the Mount Lawley member seeks the champion’s exemption into the US Women’s Amateur Championship and two LPGA events: the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open and Manulife LPGA Classic, both in Canada after the Olympic Games.
