Green misses LPGA status

There was a Green front and centre at the LPGA Q-School finale this morning, but sadly for Perth and Australian golf fans, it wasn’t of the Hannah variety.

Jaye Marie Green holed a 6m putt on the final hole to win medallist honours after the fifth and final round at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Florida.

The American pipped Iceland’s Olafia Kristinsdottir for top honours at -13, with both among the 20 women who earnt full cards on the LPGA Tour for season 2017.

Sadly for Hannah Green, the only Aussie to reach the final day of the 90-hole marathon, a closing five-over-par 77 dropped her to 67th and without any additional bonus to the secondary Symetra Tour card she’d already secured.

Players ranked 21-45 and ties after today’s round earnt partial status on the big tour, while all who played 72 holes, including Aussies Wanasa Zhou, Rebecca Artis and Emma de Groot, can play freely on the Symetra Tour next year.

Hannah Green had put herself in position after a gritty fourth round 72 that overcame a triple-bogey seven on the fourth hole of the Hills Course.

But needing, as it turned out, a 67 to make the top 20 or a 74 to make the top 45, Green could not overcome a second successive slow start.

Bogeys on the first, second and fourth holes were partially negated by a birdie on the fifth, but three more in succession from holes 11-13 were the death knell to any higher aspirations for the Mount Lawley ace.

“Was a tough week but one to remember and learn from!” Green tweeted after her round.

“Thank you to everyone who has supported me!”
