Green right in Canadian mix

Hannah Green continues to shine at the Canadian Women’s Amateur Championship, but the Perth ace is far from having things her own way.

The Mount Lawley member carded an impressive 68 on the par-70 Ken-Wo Golf Club layout north of Halifax, Nova Scotia, today, but lost ground to Hawaiian Allisen Corpuz.

The Golf Australia national squad member is three under at the halfway point, but four behind Corpuz who took a double-bogey on the ninth – her final hole – but still managed a course-record 65.

Local hope Josee Doyon (66), of nearby Quebec, is second at four under, while Green shares third with world junior girls’ champion Hye-jin Choi (68), of Korea.

Queensland’s Gennai Goodwin fired a 69 to scythe through the field after her opening 78, but at seven over was the only other Australian player to make headway.

Perth youngster Hira Naveed shot her second consecutive 72 to sit at T24 and four over, while Sydney’s Liz Elmassian (73) and Queensland’s Yu Eun Eunice Kim (75) are a further shot adrift.

Karis Davidson endured five bogeys and a double in a rollercoaster 74 that left her out of contention at nine over, while fellow Gold Coaster Becky Kay just couldn’t find a spark in shooting a flat 79 that pushed her one stroke on the wrong side of the cut line at 15 over par.

There are huge incentives on offer with the champion exempt into the US Women’s Amateur Championship and two LPGA events: the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open and Manulife LPGA Classic, both in Canada after the Olympic Games.
