Hilliard & Wild tied for Par 3 lead at Kyabram

WPar3Rd1

The Victorian Women’s Par 3 Championship at Kyabram Parkland GC is off to a hot start today after round 1 of the championship in fresh and still conditions. Located in the Goulburn Valley, approximately a 3 hour drive from the Melbourne CBD, Kyabram Parkland is a unique course comprising of 18 par 3 holes with small sloping greens and is a fantastic test of your short game.

The course proved to be a challenge for all players following the heavy rains in the lead up to the championship. Heavy rain looked threatening on the radar early on but dissipated to light showers by the time it reached Kyabram in the afternoon.

Tied for the lead with an impressive score of 5 over par 59 are Alex Hilliard of Commonwealth and Casey Wild from Wodonga. Hilliard’s round consisted of back-to-back birdies on 18 and 1, followed by another chip-in birdie from the back of the 7th green. Wild played steady throughout the day with 5 bogeys and parring out the remainder to card the same score. The leading pair are 3 shots clear of Victoria’s Bonnie Chignell on 62 who will be looking to make up some ground tomorrow afternoon.

The B-Grade gross championship is tightly contested, with trio of Annette Pell (Kyabram Parkland), Christine O’Toole (Bandiana Army), and Jan Baczynski (Trentham) all tied in the lead on 78. Hot on their tails are Fay Hunt (Bandiana Army) and Ruth Mcalister (Lakeside) one shot behind on 79.

In the nett championship, Coral Ward from Beechworth is leading the way in A-Grade with a solid nett score of 55. Two shots back is Heathcote member Tristen Wearne on nett 57 and 3 players tied a further 3 shots back on nett 58. Tina Cowie of Tambo Valley is leading B-Grade with an impressive score of nett 52. The 28 marker carded the best overall nett score of the day and will be looking to capitalise on her 5 shot lead from the pack of 5 players tied on nett 57 behind her.

The annual Tournament Dinner is held at Kyabram Club on Allan St tonight before the second and final rounds commence tomorrow morning.
