Impressive academics & athletics key for Zanic

Already recording a 4.0 GPA and an impressive history in golf, Victorian student-athlete Daniel Zanic is ready to embark on a journey of a lifetime at West Virginia University Institute of Technology in August.

Daniel sat the SAT test, which measures your Graded Point Average score that aids in college offers three times in order to increase his chances of obtaining the best possible score he could.

After signing up to the NSR program in year 11 and beginning preparations for his exciting future at college in the US, Daniel pushed himself on and off the golf course to ensure he was in a great position to be successful overseas.

“I’ve tried to stay on top of things and stay organised. I don’t like to leave things to the last minute and give myself a bit of unnecessary stress. I thought; I only have a year and a half left of school so I thought I’m not going to get to the end of school and think I should’ve worked harder. So, I just put in my absolute all so when I got to the end of it I could say I gave it everything and I tried my best and that’s all I can ask for!” Daniel said.

With his remarkable academic results, Daniel was offered a level one academic scholarship, which will see him receive $10,000 towards his tuition and college living expenses.

“The coach was given the green light to spend a bit of money. I think it’s a $10,000 scholarship which is pretty handy!” Daniel said.

Daniel encourages other aspiring student-athletes to work as hard as they can in the lead-up to their adventure to ensure they set themselves up for a successful college career.

“I think to take the SAT at the start of the year, middle of the year and in that term three holiday break could be a good time to do it because it doesn’t interfere with upcoming VCE exams and you’re not burning yourself out,” Daniel advised.

Having set himself up as well as he has both academically and athletically, Daniel is extremely excited for his experience to get underway at WVU Tech and is grateful to have this pathway laid out before him.

“Ultimately, I hope that this experience helps me grow as a person and as an athlete. Also, I hope to grow as a golfer and develop my skills with the goal of hopefully becoming professional one day, and bettering my education in a field that I’m pretty passionate about.”

“Having that back up plan, with having a degree, is very reassuring,” he said.

Daniel will study finance and hopes to follow his golfing career as far as he possibly can. He notes that this pathway is perfectly suited for an aspiring athlete who understands the difficulty of making it professionally and appreciates the importance and significance of a college degree.

“There’s a very high percentage of professional golfers that are on those European and United States tours that have taken the college pathway so I thought to myself it’s probably the best way to go about achieving that goal. Also, the opportunity to go and study in another country, go and meet a whole bunch of new people, to go and network and maybe potentially get a job in the States…I love the States I’ve been there a few times so to get the opportunity to study over there is a dream come true!” Daniel said.

The NSR Pathway Program TM is a proven process which allows interested families to explore and evaluate the opportunity and determine if it is the right fit for them.

As part of this process, Golf Victoria would like to invite you all to attend a skills evaluation with Golf Vic coaches on 19th September.
