Kyneton takes home Doris Chambers Cup at Sanctuary Lakes

Doris Chambers
L-R: Jenny McSwain & Beth Murray (Kyneton)

The second state final for the 2018 Doris Chambers Cup took place today  in Melbourne’s west at the picturesque Sanctuary Lakes Golf Club. A total of 142 players gathered from the west of the state to contest the event.

The event was first played in 1950 and the trophy was donated by Miss Doris Chambers OBE, former Ladies Golf Union President. The format is Foursomes Stableford with each club playing a qualifying event with the winning pair making it through to the final.

The morning field saw the highlight of the day as Anglesea’s Barbara Croaker produced her first ever career hole-in-one. Croaker teamed with Margaret DeVries to take out the best score for the AM field with their score of 36 foursomes stableford points. Three pairs all tied for second on 35 points but it was Castlemaine’s Kay Francis and Rosalie Roberts who would take home the second prize.

Winners in the afternoon field and overall champions for 2018 at Sanctuary Lakes was the pair from Kyneton, Jenny McSwain and Beth Murray. The pair finished with 36 points to beat the morning winners on a countback. Two shots further back taking the runner-up prize was the team from Terang represented by Joanne Arundell and Judith Carmody. They managed to beat teams from Numurkah and Romsey on a countback.

Golf Victoria would like to congratulate and thank everyone who competed in this years’ Doris Chambers Cup finals and all qualifying events across the state. A huge thank you to both Cranbourne and Sanctuary Lakes golf clubs for hosting this year’s finals.
