Lovely Victory for Valentine

A terrific week of golf wrapped up today at the Tocumwal Golf and Bowls Club, which is situated on the famous Murray River. With a heavy downpour of rain overnight, the course was left damp but by no means unplayable, the beautifully manicured fairways and greens shown little signs of winter. Players tackled the Composite course again today, with much better scoring than yesterday’s round, even with a mid-round sprinkle of rain.

Stephen Valentine from Kew successfully claimed victory in this year’s Tocumwal Senior Amateur, after finishing yesterday’s round one shot behind the three leaders who were tied at the top. Stephen’s second round and the best daily scratch score of 73 was good enough to get him over the line, to finish one shot ahead of Chris Tatt (Buninyong) and Kym Olsen (The National). A very excited Valentine, who regularly plays in Golf Victoria senior events, was thrilled with his win, hanging on the way through his round without any mistakes.

Helen Pascoe has claimed the Women’s Tocumwal Senior Amateur title, with a total of 57 Scratch Stableford points for 36 holes. Helen took the lead after round 1 and extended this to defeat second placed Heather Harley (Kooringal) by 9 points. Heather had much better luck in the Stableford section, taking the overall prize with a total of 62 points, followed closely by Noelle Hartnett from Rossdale.

Drouin’s Brett Mclellan has snatched the Nett Championship from the overnight leader, Stawell’s Randal Bacon, with a total score of 138, ahead of Valentine (139) and Bacon on 143.

Coomealla will host their annual Senior tournament from Monday 18 – Wednesday 20 July before the much anticipated Melbourne Sandbelt events kick off at Yarra Yarra on Monday 8 August.
