McCleary and Pascoe Strong at Heathcote

Heathcote 2018 winners
LtoR: John Hoare, Ian McCleary, Helen Pascoe, Kay Barcelon.

Ian McCleary (Kooringal) and Helen Pascoe (Buninyong) have taken top honours in the 11th Heathcote Senior Amateur in typical winter conditions.

With reports of bad weather coming in thick and fast from visiting players who made the drive to central Victoria this morning, it didn’t deter the 69 strong field that took to the airways to spend their afternoon walking amongst the kangaroos at the foot of scenic Mount Ida.

Ian McCleary come out of the day as the 2018 Champion, his first title at this event, carding a five-over par 76, edging out Metropolitans John Kelly on a countback. Kelly had a score of 38 on both sides of the card, whilst McCleary was able to manage one less shot on the back 9 to take the top spot.

Helen Pascoe made her way around the course with only 5 bogeys on the card, balanced out with an eagle on the 9th hole, which saw her return 33 scratch stableford points and take the title in the women’s event. Taking out second place in the scratch event was Heather Harley (Kooringal) with 23 points.

In the men’s handicap section, John Hoare from Pakenham took the main prize with a nett 67 (handicap 15), with Dorset’s Rob Lowe finishing second, one shot under his handicap with a 70 nett.

Kay Barcelon (Patterson River) has walked away with her first stableford event win for the year, a fantastic 37 points was the best score by 4 points, Lorraine Berra from The Dunes was the closest to catching Barcelon as she ran away with the prize.

Many of today’s competitors will make the short trek to Shepparton in the Goulburn Valley when the opening round of the 2018 Shepparton Senior Amateur commences at 11:00am.
