Over one hundred school students were given the opportunity to try golf for the first time at the Victorian Disability Sport and Recreation Festival, held at Crown Southbank, Melbourne last week.

The festival which is held annually in conjunction with International Day of People with Disability saw a great turnout of school children coming through the Golf Victoria stand, where many experienced golf for the first time.

The festival provided the opportunity to promote three new MyGolf inclusive programs that will launch in Term 1 2017. Designed specifically for juniors with an intellectual disability, the programs will be delivered by qualified PGA members with an advanced accreditation in inclusive coaching.

Sandringham Golf Course, Sandhurst Club and Pakenham & District Golf Club will all commence programs in late January specifically for juniors with an intellectual disability.

GA National Inclusion Manager Christian Hamilton said the three venues were a great fit for the program.

“Having a coach with an advanced accreditation in inclusive coaching and a club with the right attitude towards inclusion are important in providing a sustainable pathway into golf”, Christian said.

“MyGolf is an inclusive participation program that is adaptable and most importantly fun” Christian added.

Registrations are now open on the MyGolf website at mygolf.org.au.
