Pickwick & Vuillermin spring into the lead

Spring Rd 1

The 2016 Victorian Spring Country Tournament commenced today at Morwell GC for a field of 85 players. In true Melbourne style, the conditions were temperamental all day with shattered showers alleviated by intermittent sunshine.

Jess Pickwick is the clubhouse leader with a 4 over par 72. The Kilmore member and defending champion is leading by 2 shots from Victorian Junior Girls State Team captain Alex Hilliard of Commonwealth for the Ruby McKenzie (Gross) Trophy. Members of each host club Anne Bland (Traralgon) and Nikki Te Paa (Morwell) are co-leaders of the B-Grade gross with a pair of 79s, while Pam Schaper of Sale was in the best in for C-Grade with 100 off the stick.

Local member Debra Vuillermin from Morwell is leading the hunt for the Vi Teesdale (Nett) Trophy. The 10 marker carded a nett 73 to take a 3 shot lead from Pickwick and Schaper, both tied on nett 76. Dawn Andrews of Phillip Island is leading B-Grade with a nett 79, while Schaper will be the player to beat in C-Grade with her nett 76.

The Tournament Dinner will be held tonight at Traralgon GC, before players tee off tomorrow morning at 9am for the second and final round.
