Seve and Ash find the Key to success

2017 Regional Series Keysborough 1

In 2015, it was so cold it felt like it could snow, in 2016 a small hurricane blew across the course, but for this year’s instalment of the Stuart Appleby Regional Series Event players enjoyed the most perfect winters day at Keysborough Golf Club. Temperatures where crisp early on but eventually the sun warmed the 98 players that took to the course.

Seve Jones blitzed the field today after signing for a stellar two-under par to walk home with the overall boy’s gross title. A birdie bonanza on holes 8, 9 and 10 saw Jones reach four-under for his round but a few bogeys on the back nine meant he would settle with a very sold round of 71. The 17-year-old has recently dropped his handicap to scratch and fired numerous sub-par rounds on the West course at his home club of Royal Melbourne.

In the overall girls section, Ashleigh Hall was too strong after carding a round of two-over par 76 in the benign conditions. Hall finished tied with Shanaiah Fernando for top spot but her stellar back nine of one-under, including birdies at 17 and 18, saw her prevail victorious on a count-back.

Spring Valley’s Nivathan Kanthan found the day easy going when he posted a dominating score of 68 nett the A division. Jack Nibbs and Matthew Dunne finished two shots back, bettering their handicaps by three shots on 70.

Jacob White narrowly notched our Naya Patel on a count-back to walk away with first place in the B division following a round of 70 from his 11 handicap. Meanwhile Toby Hynes from Rossdale won the C division quite convincingly with 39 points, followed by Todd Rogers on 37 points and trio of players on 35 points apiece.
