Sarah Jane Smith had her best LPGA Tour finish since February's Women's Australian Open with her tied-13th in the Sime Darby LPGA event in Kuala Lumpur today.

Smith closed with a one-under 70 after a pair of 65s on Friday and Saturday to finish five shots shy of the winner, veteran American Cristie Kerr.

The Queenslander has had another solid season on tour and remains in position to play in the Tour Championship at the end of November.

Today's result has her 47th on the season-long points race, with the top 72 to play off in the Tour Championship in Florida.

Three others -- Su Oh, Minjee Lee and Katherine Kirk -- are projected to join her in that event.

Oh finished tied-23rd and Lee tied-28th this week.

The 40-year-old Kerr won her third tournament for 2017 and her 20th overall LPGA Tour victory with a bombed birdie putt at the last. In characteristic fashion, Kerr was walking with a fist in the air as the putt buried into the cup, ruining the chances of Americans Danielle Kang and Jacqui Concolino, who had posted 14-under totals and were in place for a playoff.

China's Shanshan Feng had a birdie putt from mid-range to force a playoff with Kerr, but could not make it.
