Spring double for Pickwick

Jess Pickwick Spring
Ruby McKenzie & Vi Teesdale Champion - Jessica Pickwick (Kilmore)

Jessica Pickwick of Kilmore has cleaned up at the 2016 Victorian Spring Country Tournament. The defending champion and scratch marker has claim both the Ruby McKenzie (best gross) and Vi Teesdale (best nett) trophies after two solid rounds of golf in adverse conditions.

It was reminiscent of winter out on course today at Traralgon. The weather was overcast and wet with the temperature barely peaking at 12 degrees Celsius. Showers turned into heavy rain towards the end of the morning round and players were grateful to reach the warm clubhouse with their soggy scorecards.

Pickwick seemed unfazed by the conditions, putting together rounds of 76 and 77 for a 36-hole gross (and nett) total of 153, securing her both gross and nett perpetual trophies by 5 and 3 shots respectively. The next best score came from Alex Hillard of Commonwealth on 158, taking home the best 36-Hole gross trophy for A-Grade, while Bonnie Chignell of Victoria was the A-Grade nett champion on a count-back, scoring nett 156 off a handicap of 2.

B and C grade were dominated by two players, local member Anne Bland of Traralgon and neighbor Pam Schaper of Sale. Bland and Schaper played well over the two days to win both the gross and nett sections of B and C Grade. Bland, off a handicap of 17, posted a gross total of 191 for a nett 156, while Schaper carded gross 208 (nett 160) playing off a handicap of 24.

Golf Victoria wishes to thank both Morwell and Traralgon Golf Clubs, their committees, volunteers and staff members for the wonderful hospitality provided to players over both days. Players are also thanked for their continued support for the game and spirit in which it is played. Next year’s Spring Tournament will move to Mansfield GC on Monday 30 and Tuesday 31 October 2017.
