Stuart Appleby Rookie Series grand finale

2016 Rookie Series Final

Some of Victoria’s best up and coming players contested today’s Stuart Appleby Rookie Series Final at the beautiful Spring Valley Golf Club under calm conditions. All players that competed today qualified in one of the many events throughout 2016 for the chance to hold the Rookie of the year title.

Harrison Gomez fired a sensational round of 34 today to level the par of the nine-hole competition course to take home the under 11 boys title. Jacob Ngo was too good in the handicap section with a round 29.

Skana Sutherland continued to impress with her smooth swing shooting 37 this morning to take home the under 11 title. Louise Baliton finished three shots back on 40 while Zara Shinn-Mahony came in with a red hot 26 nett for top honours in the handicap section.

Rookie specialist Jazy Roberts was too strong in the under 16 girls with her round of 37 for the victory while Sophie Miles was equally impressive with her handicap round of 26 for the nett title.

Aaron Tran prevailed in the under 16 boys by warding off some stiff competition to card 35 on the front nine. Morten Hafkamp finished two shots behind the eventual winner while fellow Neangar Park member walked away with the nett following a solid 28 from his 13 handicap.

The overall Future Stars ranking winners were announced with Ben Powell taking home the boys section and Jazy Roberts the girls. Both players had stellar years with multiple victories thought 2016 to cement the yearlong ranking title to their names.
