Sub-par rounds at the Dunes

2017 Rookie Series Dunes

The Cups course was host to today’s Rookie Series at the magnificent Dunes Golf Links. Conditions we simply perfect, the sun was shining and not a breath of wind to mention – the opposite to what players often face when competing on the Morning Peninsula.

Aaron Tran found the day easy going on the tricky 9-hole course as he carded a superb round of one under-par 32 for the boys under 16 title. Tran carded 6 pars, two birdies and the one bogey for the win. A number of count-backs were required this afternoon and the first one went in favour of Roi Lawrence Fortinez who walked away with the under 16 boys nett prize. Deborah Choi claimed top spot in the under 16 girls by a single stroke over the smooth swinging Yacinta Markovac.

In the under 12 boys Tyler Talbot and Hamish Farquharson tied after both signed for rounds of 35. However, it was Talbot that prevailed by the narrowest of margins on the count-back. After competing in his first Rookie Series event two weeks ago at Sanctuary Lakes Kai Rogerson took out his inaugural win with a super score of 23 nett in the under 12 boys. Aleisha Hannam-Lewis matched Kai’s score today for a barnstorming victory in the under 12 girls handicap sector. Portia Hall was too strong in the gross section after managing her way around the undulating layout for 43.

William Li was victorious in the under 9 boys with a gross round of 38 while his playing partner Elbert Kim edged out two others on 27 nett for the handicap honours. Sophie Mann was once again on top of the podium in the under 9 girls while Melanie Dissanayake fired 30 from her 19 handicap for a win in the handicap segment.
