The world's best golf photos

World-renowned golf photographer Gary Lisbon has made an art form of capturing the world's great courses at their most magnificent.

With a spectacular landscape and coast in his native Australia, Lisbon has been blessed with a great canvas in his homeland.

But he's also travelled far and wide to document some of the great international golf settings.

We asked Gary to contribute some of his favourite images to celebrate Golf Month.

We think you'll agree, his contribution is nothing short of spectacular ...

Royal Melbourne 16th East (Gary Lisbon)

The Royal Melbourne Golf Club, Melbourne Sandbelt, Victoria

Hole 16 (East), Par 3

Classic par 3, one of the most photogenic on the Sandbelt. Morning shot with a hint of sun peeking through. Amazing bunkering.

Kingston Heath 15th (Gary Lisbon)

Kingston Heath Golf Club, Melbourne Sandbelt, Victoria

Hole 15, Par 3

Arguably the best par 3 in Australia. Testing, tempting and downright scary at times.

Barnbougle Lost Farm Aerial (Gary Lisbon)

Barnbougle Lost Farm, Bridport, Tasmania

Aerial shot of course

From a helicopter on a windy day through an open door, so a truly spectacular shot. This photo was fortunate enough to win golf photograph of the year from the Golf Writers Association of Australia.

New South Wales 6th (Gary Lisbon)

New South Wales Golf Club, Sydney, NSW

Hole 6, Par 3

Rich colours in this sunrise over another great par 3. Playing over this water is always testing and par is a good score.

The National 7th Old Course (Gary Lisbon)

The National Golf Club, Mornington Peninsula, Victoria

Hole 7 (Old Course), Par 3

With the sun in the perfect place, one of the world's great golfing backdrops highlights this spectacular hole perfectly.

INTERNATIONAL COURSES

The Links at Fancourt, South Africa 10th (Gary Lisbon)

The Links at Fancourt, George, South Africa

Hole 10, Par 4

Amazing colours in the rough and fairway with the backdrop of the Outeniqua Mountains framing the shot perfectly.

Cape Kidnappers, New Zealand 15th (Gary Lisbon)

Cape Kidnappers Golf Course, Hawkes Bay, New Zealand

Hole 15, Par 5, Pirates Plank

The simplicity of this shot shines through. Clean, uncluttered and shows the golfer what they are facing. Known as Pirates Plank, the hole narrows as you get closer to the green.

The Old Course at St Andrews, Scotland 4th (Gary Lisbon)

The Old Course at St Andrews, St Andrews, Scotland

Hole 18, Old Course, Par 4

World famous course, the home of golf. Try getting it without people – almost impossible!! But it worked this time.

Trump Turnberry, Scotland 9th (Gary Lisbon)

Trump Turnberry, Scotland

Hole 9, Par 3

Newly designed and much better than before. Par 3 playing over cliffs perilously close to the water. Lighthouse backdrop completes the picture.

Royal County Down, Northern Island 3rd (Gary Lisbon)

Royal County Down Golf Club, Newcastle, Northern Ireland

Hole 3, Par 4

After a 3:52am wake-up call, a climb to the top of the dune behind the green, then a 90-minute wait before the sun made a 45-second appearance to get this shot. Easy!

Kauri Cliffs, New Zealand 7th (Gary Lisbon)

Kauri Cliffs, Bay of Islands, New Zealand

Hole 7, Par 3

Backdrop of the Cavalla Islands is breathtaking and the distinction between fairway and rough shows the golfer the challenges ahead.

Old Head Golf Links, Ireland 4th (Gary Lisbon)

Old Head Golf Links, County Kinsale, Ireland

Hole 4, Par 4

Another lighthouse and a par 4 which does not reward shots hit left. The whole golf course is perched on the tip of Kinsale in southern Ireland and a clear day here is rare indeed.
