Victoria gained the inside track to final berth with an important win over Queensland in the men’s Interstate Series in Perth this morning.

Other than Australian Amateur champion Matias Sanchez’s comfortable 4&3 win at No.7, all other matches were tightly contested in a battle to see who’s likely to face New South Wales in Friday’s final.

And the key difference at Melville Glades turned out to be the bottom half of Victoria’s order with Blake Collyer, Lukas Michel and his namesake Kyle Michel all 1-up winners in matches at No.6 through No.4 respectively.

Lawry Flynn again impressed with a 2&1 win at No.3 for Queensland the No.2 match between terriers David Micheluzzi and Charlie Dann was halved, meaning Shae Wools-Cobb’s 2-up win over Zach Murray in the top match was moot in a 4.5-2.5 win for Victoria.

In other matches, Tasmania got over the line with a gritty 4.5-2.5 over South Australia, while NSW stayed unbeaten with a dominant 6.5-0.5 result against Northern Territory.

The sixth round of preliminary matches is this afternoon with final-bound NSW having the bye.

Victoria will be the other finalist if it can beat SA this afternoon and Tasmania tomorrow morning, while Queensland and Western Australia must now rely on other results to have any chance to advance.
