Nine hole golf is fast, fun and fits into busy lives – whether it’s early in the morning, after work, on weekends or even on holiday.

For the second successive year, Aussie golfers who participate in the Play 9 series are being offered the chance to play like a pro at the Australian Open.

24 lucky golfers from around the country will win the experience of a lifetime and play nine holes at The Lakes Golf Club on Day 3 of the 2018 Australian Open.

Winners will travel to Sydney on Friday 16 November 2018, stay for two nights, receive a gift pack and can attend the Champion’s Cocktail Function – all courtesy of Golf Australia.

Want to play like a pro at the Australian Open?

Four of the 24 lucky golfers will come from Victoria. If you want to be one of them, start off by participating in a club qualifying round. Check with your local club or facility to see if they have a Play 9 event planned - if they don't yet, there's plenty of time to persuade them!

If you place highly in the club qualifying round you could make it to the regional qualifying round. Regional qualifiers will be held in areas all across Victoria with the leading golfers from each regional qualifier progressing to the state final at Royal Melbourne Golf Club.

The top two female and top two male golfers from the state final at Royal Melbourne will earn the experience of a lifetime to play like a pro at the Australian Open.

In 2017, team Victoria won the national event at the Australian Open, you can read the full story here.

For clubs and facilities:

In 2018 an additional qualifying round will be added to the Play 9 series which will follow the following path:

  2. 1.  Club qualifying round - administered by participating Victorian clubs
  3. 2.  Regional qualifying round - administered by Golf Victoria
  4. 3.  State final - administered by Golf Victoria
  5. 4.  National final - administered by Golf Australia

Golf Victoria strongly encourages all affiliated Victorian golf clubs to stage a 9-hole competition between 1 July and 30 September as part of the club qualifying round. These competitions must be stand alone 9-hole competitions processed through Golflink.
