Beginner Pathway

Beginner Pathway

Want to take up golf but you're not sure where to begin? Check out our 4-step pathway below:

Step 1: Introduction to Golf

Swing Fit is Golf Australia’s national female introductory program designed to encourage and promote female participation. Participants learn and experience the basic golf swing and putting action, with opportunities to have fun and get their whole body moving through golf specific conditioning and movement activities.

PlayGolf Clinics are a series of programs developed by Golf Victoria that provide opportunities for people of all ages to start golf in a welcoming, relaxed and social environment.

Step 2: On-Course Mentoring Program

On-course Mentoring with a teaching professional or club member is important to help develop the skills and knowledge of the game from tee to green. As a beginner, your mentor will not only guide you through your golfing game on-course but also step you through the basic rules and etiquette of golf. Find a club near you and ask about their on-course programs.

Step 3: Playing Opportunities

Many Golf Clubs are developing innovative offerings to increase participation in golf. Shorter courses, playing by time not holes, ability tees and winter tee's for women are all examples of how Victorian clubs are creating playing opportunities for budding golfers.

You may also want to visit the What's On? page to find upcoming activities ranging from sports expos to rules workshops to open days.

Step 4: Flexible/Modified Membership

Many golf clubs have realised the need to develop flexible membership options that can be customised to fit any lifestyle. Find a club near you and ask about their membership options.
